I had the privilege to catch up with Maggie Whish, the fourth great-granddaughter of the legendary fashion store founder, DAVID JONES and a budding journalist.

Maggie was a judge at last month’s Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast Turf Club. The gorgeous brunette hopes to eventually combine her love of fashion with a career in TV. With a fantastic sense of style and a great personality to match, I don’t think it’ll be long before Maggie becomes a regular on our screens!

1) Maggie, how would you describe your style?

Simple. Classic. Textured.

My wardrobe is predominantly black and white. I keep a simple colour palette and prefer to play with textures like quilted leather, suede and denim. If I do add a splash of colour its usually in the form of a statement piece, either a bright print or a solid block colour like yellow, fuchsia or blue. I keep it simple and modern by pairing them with something understated like a white tee or black leather pants.

2) What item in your wardrobe could you not live without?

Item? You mean I can only choose one item?? It’s a tough call between a classic black FRIEND OF MINE dress, a fresh white tee or my ISABEL MARANT Suede Black High Top-Sneakers.

3) Whose wardrobe would you love to raid?

It would have to be Christine Centenera (Harpers Bazaar Fashion Editor) or Louhayhay (Fashion Blogger).

4) Are their any trends that you’re excited about this season?

Leather. Leather. Leather. What I love most about the leather trend is it constantly returns. If you take the time to choose a quality piece it will be wearable for years to come. My two picks this season would be the jackets in Josh Goot’s collection and the leather pieces from Toby Maclean’s line Flowers For A Vagabond.

5) If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

I’m a cold weather girl. I love the snow, trench coats and the smell of a fire. I am yet to find a country with views more beautiful than Canada. You can wake up on the edge of a lake and look out across snow-covered mountains – all with a hot chocolate in hand!

6) Have you ever had an embarrassing fashion moment and if so, what was it?

I once hosted a live show that had some really quick outfit changes. I rushed backstage for the change but there was no time to put my shoes before I had to start speaking so I had to walk back onstage bare foot.
