My new baby

If you’re wondering why this blog has been a bit quiet lately, well it’s because I have had a baby! My little bub was born a month ago weighing 3.2kg and has been a delight – really placid (so far!). I’m not getting much sleep just yet, but fingers crossed she gets the hang of this day/night thing really soon.

Here’s a snap of her wearing a gorgeous little blue number. I love it and think it looks really feminine, yet because it’s blue, every time I put her in it people think she’s a boy.

Bubba

As far as this website goes, with three kids, I’m going to have to slow down on my street style snaps for a few months (I can hardly make it out the house, let alone walking around photographing people!). I have decided to make things a bit more personal in the meantime, so I’ll pop up some Instagram snaps of daily outfits etc. as well as posting on fashion items that I like.

I hope you enjoy it, and please feel free to let me know what you think or if there are things you would like to see on this blog.

Brazilian-born, Gold Coast based designer, LEILA MARIA, has done it again! Her latest collection “ALEGRIA, ALEGRIA” is perfect for our hot local summer climate, yet glamorous enough to take from the beach to the bar. Sticking to her signature style of soft, floaty designs, the flattering cuts suit most shapes while the eye-catching hues will make you feel you should be latin dancing at an exotic beach party!

Here’s who we spotted at the launch party.

If you think of faraway places – the people, the culture, the ocean with it’s perfect waves, the sights and colours of local fabrics – perhaps you’ll get a sense of KiVARi’s latest collection, HARLEQUIN DAZE.

Designed by Gold Coast local and avid world traveler, KIKI KEYSER, the label is inspired by her numerous trips abroad, particularly to Indonesia.

HARLEQUIN DAZE was inspired by my love for the ocean: the colours below, the angular lines on my surfboard and that “free” feeling of just you and the ocean,” says Kiki.

This fashion line is all about soft leathers, mesh inserts, angular cuts fused with bold signature prints. The young entrepreneur says she wanted to stick to her signature bohemian aesthetic but to include an element of grunge.

“Maxi dresses, shorts, loose singlets, leather skirts and effortless playsuits make up the basis of the collection, with each piece easily transitioning from the beach to the bar,” says Kiki.

The collection is easy to wear and each item can easily be worn together or styled individually.

This is the second collection released by KiVARi, which initially focused on leather bags, clutches and wallets.

I was thrilled to be invited to the JOY HYSTERIC SUMMER SOIREE - definitely one of the fashion highlights on the social calendar.

Not only were some of the hottest season looks from THE JOY STORES showcased by some of DIVISION MODEL MANAGEMENT’S most talented ladies, but the crowd was cutting edge with their choice of outfits too. Definitely a lot of people watching to be had (and of course, I’m fortunate enough to be able to snap some of the great looks for future inspiration!).

Can’t wait for the next installment!

Nicoletta D'

I first met stylish shoe designer, NICOLETTA SAGRIPANTI when I snapped her for a fashion photo at the MIAMI MARKETTA earlier this year.

Since then the Italian born entrepreneur’s career has gone in leaps and bounds. She has recently launched her label NICOLETTA D’ SHOES and stockists in both Sydney and the Coast quickly jumped on board.

Her collection of funky leather, glitter and studded shoes and boots are both wearable and edgy, the perfect accessory for those wanting to add individuality to their look.  Designed here, Nicoletta then gets her ideas converted to reality, using factories near her native town in Italy to create her stock.

For more on Nicoletta’s great range of shoes, go to http://www.facebook.com/NicolettaDShoesThey are also being stocked at JANINE EDWARDS at Marina Mirage and at ELEMENT at the Oracle and Marina Mirage.

JUPITER’S Pavilion Lawn was the perfect spot for a tea party (and a leisurely game of croquet) as it played host to a bevy of beautiful ladies all lending their support to the CANCER COUNCIL QUEENSLAND.

The sold-out event, hosted by 102.9 HOT TOMATO’s MOYRA MAJOR was a steaming success as guests enjoyed tea and delicious treats while listening to live music. While the morning was a little chilly, it didn’t bother the glamorous crowd as they sipped their cuppa’s in support of a great cause.

The function was held as part of the Cancer Council’s annual event AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST MORNING TEA.

Exciting times lie ahead for one of the Gold Coast’s longest standing boutiques, ADRENALIN.

The iconic store, which was launched by DEAN and KAT McCAULEY, will be moving to MARINA MIRAGE at the end of MAY. The trendy retailer has set the tone for local fashion for 16 years, attracting the who’s of the social set through it’s doors. They house some of Australia’s top brands such as Maurie & Eve, Sass & Bide and Shakuhachi.

They have been at Australia Fair Shopping Centre since they opened.

We can’t wait to see the fresh new store! Congratulations on your move, Dean and Kat!

The first Corporate Ladies Lunch of the year was held at the ever glamorous VIE Restaurant at PALAZZO VERSACE. It wasn’t just a chance for a group of fabulous ladies to catch up for a chat over a glass of champers, but also a great way to raise money for some amazing local charities.

The sold-out event was a huge success, hopefully giving a firm start towards raising as much money this year as the $10,000 raised in 2012.

Local label, WHITE SANDS AUSTRALIA, showcased it’s most glamorous collection to date when it’s bronzed, retro-inspired models hit the catwalk.

The MBFWA came to a stand-still as the chic range was displayed to the who’s who of Australia’s fashion scene. The monochrome and pastels/florals collection made an elegant statement on the runway.

The swimwear brand is the brain-child of Gold Coast designer, LEAH MADDEN. Since it’s conception, WHITE SANDS has been rapidly making a name for itself both nationally and internationally, having showcased at the MIAMI FASHION WEEK last year.

Here are a few of the amazing looks taken by fashion photographer, MICHAEL GREVES.

It’s hard to believe trendy, STINGRAY LOUNGE has been around for two years. Surfers Paradise’s hottest venue celebrated it’s big day with the bash of the year.

The glamorous event was attended by some of the Coast’s cool kids for a night a music, dancing and great food at a “aeroplane” themed party (complete with gorgeous uniformed “flight attendants”). Here’s who we spotted.

If you don’t know your monochrome from your aztec, then perhaps it’s time you treated yourself to a styling session at ROBINA TOWN CENTRE. For the next few weeks, in-house fashion expert BRITTNEY MOROKO will be available for 15 minute slots to give free advice on the latest looks for the season.

“It’s about teaching people about the latest trends” says Brittney, “but also how to work those trends into their wardrobe without getting a whole new wardrobe and spending a lot of money”.

Stylist Brittney Moroko

At a luxurious “pop-up” lounge set up next to NINE WEST, Brittney has her “picks” of the hottest styles, and will give customers guidance on how to choose colours and cuts that suits them. If that sounds like a lot to learn in 15 minutes, the professional stylist says it’s plenty of time to get some valuable tips.

“It’s key pointers, just a few little tricks that people can put into practice that helps them with their body shape”, says BRITTNEY.

BRITTNEY is in-store from THURSDAYS through to SUNDAYS. You can get more details from the ROBINA TOWN CENTRE website.

The DESIGN INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA events are proving to not only be a hub for top local design talent, but also the hangout for the funkiest of fashionistas.

Trendsetters turned up in drones to support the seven young designers chosen to give their insights into the industry. Speakers included Molly & Polly Swimwear’s KIRSTEN BECK, EMILY CHAMBERLAIN from Love Mae and KIERAN BLACK from Black July.

It was a fantastic night held at a great venue, the RABBIT & COCOON in Miami.

Face of QT Fashion Week - Georgia Ansell

The very gorgeous GEORGIA ANSELL has taken out a bevy of beautiful finalists to be named FACE of QT FASHION WEEK. The glamorous event was held at QT’s STINGRAY LOUNGE, where twenty bright young things from around South East Queensland took to the catwalk to vie for the coveted title.

The finalists

Judges, blogger MISSY ROBINSON (My Gasoline Rainbow), swimwear designer, LEAH MADDEN and media personality SIMONE BENNETT-SMITH, had the difficult task of whittling down the numbers.

Geogia Ansell, Jana Kruger, Dominique Eden and Dannielle Hughes made the first cut but it was 17 year old GEORGIA who finally took out the top spot.

Four finalists

She’ll will now take on a prominent role promoting the upcoming QT Fashion Week being held from the 22nd to the 28th April.
