With her gorgeous dimples and engaging smile, it’s no surprise local model EMILY WHITLOCK has been compared to MIRANDA KERR. Yet despite being blessed with good looks, this natural beauty is as down to earth as they come. Not only is she in her final year of studying a teaching degree, but this busy photographic and runway model also holds down two retail jobs!

We caught up with EMILY to find out how she manages to stay so stylish despite her crazy schedule.

Emily, how long have you been modelling for?
I have been modelling for six years now. I recently modeled for the Gold Coast Fashion Week 2012, but I’ve also done parades and shoots from as far south as Byron Bay, right up to Brisbane. A few of the main ones were Queensland Bridal, I was the cover girl for the Byron Fashion Show called ‘Voyeur’, new jeans label ‘Stache Range’, Dissh website shoots, Damsel in this Dress, and many more local designers and boutiques.

How did you get into modelling?
I won a shopping center modelling competition back in 2006 and went on from there.

You’re studying to be a teacher, that’s quite a different career path to modelling!
I am currently in my final year of my Bachelor of Primary Education. I absolutely love it! My recent practicum was with Grade 7 which I absolutely adored! I like teaching the older years as they are easier to relate to and communicate with and I love creating fun and enjoyable lessons which they can be engaged within.

Is modelling as glamorous as people think it is?
Some parts of modelling can be glamorous with regards to getting your hair and makeup done and made to feel beautiful with stunning clothes, but other times it can be hard work. I usually spend longs days on a shoot which can be quite exhausting and almost like a workout. I have done shoots in very uncomfortable locations and uncomfortable poses and positions, where you have to try and look as comfortable as possible. In the end, the finished product looks good and its always loads of fun which is all that matters.

I have also had paint thrown at me for a shoot with the ‘Stache Range’!

What is the best thing about modelling?
The experience is possibly the best thing. I have met so many amazing people through my journey and made so many new friendships. Its almost like a big day of dress-ups where you are able to look and feel beautiful while wearing amazing fashion.

What is the worst thing about modelling?
Probably the long hours and early morning rises.

How would you describe your style?
My style is quite girly and glam. I love to mix it up if I am inspired by a piece or a look and make it my own. I often theme my outfits depending on what sort of mood I’m in, or a piece of clothing I want to wear that day.

If you could swap wardrobes with anyone who would it be and why?
Olivia Palermo! I just love her style, and she has so many amazing pieces and can make anything work! I would love to have her wardrobe!

What is the best fashion advice you could give someone?
My best fashion advice would be to keep it simple, classy, glamorous and fun! Have a few statement pieces in your wardrobe and great accessories! Accessories are great for changing the look of an outfit and making it something different!

You always look so stylish, Emily. What inspires your outfits? How do you choose what to wear every morning?
Working in retail and being around so many amazing styles can be very influential. I love reading fashion magazine and getting tips and ideas from them too. I often theme my outfits in the mornings depending on an item of clothing I want to wear that day. I usually think about my outfit the night before in bed, and play dress-ups in the morning. I will sometimes go through three or more outfits and many many accessories before finding the right outfit for the day!

What is your favourite fashion shop on the Gold Coast?
I love Joy Hysteric but its a little out of my price range. ‘About a Girl’ in Nobby Beach always has cute clothes.

What is your beauty regime?
I just cleanse and moisturize my face and drink water to keep myself hydrated.

How do you stay in shape?
I have always been into health and fitness. I began as a dancer which gave me long and lean muscles and the discipline with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I love jogging along the Esplanade and also enjoy the classes at the gym. Most of all I love Pilates as it is great for all over toning. I try and eat really well too.

When I’m not working I’m…catching up and getting coffee with my girlfriends, shopping, going to the gym or jogging along the Esplanade with my puppy.
I’ve been told I look like… Erin McNaught, Miranda Kerr (dimples), Olivia Palermo and Amanda Ware.
My favourite food is… roasted veggies and cheese platters
I listen to… all kind of music. I usually love what ever is on Triple J.
My favourite TV show is… Revenge
My favourite book is… Treasure Yourself by Miranda Kerr
My quirkiest habit is… my story telling, because I like to say every little detail to make you feel as though you were there with me.
In five years I hope to be… successful in either modelling or teaching or anything I decide to do or that comes my way (I’ll just take every opportunity I get) and maybe even be somewhere around the world.
In ten years I hope be… maybe stating a family and hopefully continuing to model and teach! I just don’t know where life will take me in ten years.

Finally, if you could only take one thing to a desert island, what would it be?
My puppy Charlie because he is the cutest and I know he would be a great companion and have a blast! (I would take my cat, but I just don’t think she would enjoy it).

I think Emily is lovely, I just thought you should know that there are A LOT of spelling mistakes and grammatically incorrect sentences in this article. In one section you even called Emily a ‘his’.

“Yet despite being blessed with good looks, >>>his<<< natural beauty is as down to earth as they come. "

I promise I am only aiming to provide constructive criticism and not to be nasty.

    Good luck fashion GC!!
