Bardot jumpsuit

There is just something about a jumpsuit that I love. Maybe it’s the throwback to 70’s glamour, but I just can’t get enough of them (as you will see from the posts of more jumpsuits I’ll be putting up in the next week or two – I have loads of them!).

I bought this gorgeous one from BARDOT and I love it as can be dressed up or down for a casual or smart look. Black is always a great choice for a jumpsuit, as, being a head-to-toe look, if you have one in a bright colour or a pattern, once you’ve worn it once, everyone remembers it. This one you can add colourful accessories or a belt and it gives it a completely different look.

I have worn this with patterned shoes (a bargain buy from BIG W) and a bright red REVLON lipstick (my favourite colour at the moment).

Courtney Thorpe

COURNTEY THORPE is one busy lady. In between working as a styling teacher, fashion editor and organising INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEK she also made her mark at this year’s MISS UNIVERSE AUSTRALIA, being selected as a national finalist.

What’s the secret to this rising star’s success? Well, waking up to a snack of chocolate every day must count for something! We were lucky enough to get a few minutes of Courtney’s time to find out what makes this Brisbane-born beauty tick.

Courtney, tell me a bit about yourself.
I was born in Brisbane and lived there my entire life until last year when I moved to the Gold Coast. I have recently moved back to Brisbane for work.

What do you do for a living?
I am a styling teacher and the head of the styling department at the Australian Institute of Creative Design, the Fashion Editor of GCMAG, a model and teacher at Katz Management and I was the Style Director and Event Coordinator of International Fashion Week until just the other day as I have accepted the promotion to Director of International Fashion Week which is very exciting!

Tell me a bit about the Miss Universe competition.
One of my friends encouraged me to enter it a few years ago but it took me a while to work up the courage to give it a go. The Queensland finals were fantastic. It is always such a great day, what girl doesn’t like to get dressed up and have her hair and makeup done? The other contestants are always so lovely so that makes the day even more enjoyable. I wasn’t actually too nervous this time around, I honestly did not expect to get through so I was just there to have some fun, I was extremely shocked when I was announced as a national finalist! Question and answer is my favourite part of the day, I love that I get to share my opinions, I have a lot of them!

Courtney Thorpe

How would you describe your style?
I would say my is style classic with a modern twist. That sounds like a cocktail, doesn’t it!? I am inspired by the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O, they dressed with such timeless elegance. I have always been obsessed with pearls and Chanel, so any outfit that I can incorporate one of the two is a perfect outfit as far as I am concerned.

Do you have a style icon?
Olivia Palermo, she always manages to find the perfect balance between style and fashion, not to mention her amazing accessories.

What would I find in your handbag?
A huge mess! My calendar, left over notes and business cards, an entire store worth of lipglosses and lipsticks, a selection of perfume, enough bobby pins to build a house, my trusty Oroton umbrella, my phone charger, my USB, honestly it’s a mess in there!

What was your best fashion buy?
My Chanel Bag. I went to Europe a couple of years ago and my Chanel bag was my big splurge. The only problem is, I treasure it too much to actually use it, so it sits in my room and I just smile at it instead. Sometimes when I am feeling brave I will look at myself holding it in the mirror!

What was your worst fashion buy?

My worst fashion buy would have to be when I was eight years old. I forced my mum into buying me velvet, leopard print leggings and a black velvet shirt to match. Not my finest fashion moment.

What is the best fashion advice you could give someone?
Don’t get caught up in brands. Just because it is a brand, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it looks good! I always tell my students that women with true style can make an outfit from Supre look as good as an outfit from Chanel.

What is your greatest indulgence?
Shoes. There is always a reason to buy shoes. A Tuesday is a good enough reason to buy shoes!

What is your favourite fashion shop on the Gold Coast?
Igedo is one of my favourites. They were kind enough to dress me during my week at QT Fashion Week and Awards.

Finish these sentences…
When I’m not working I’m… sleeping, it’s the only other thing I have time for!
My favourite food is… chocolate!
I listen to… really bad embarrassingly girly music.
My favourite TV show/movie is… Real Housewives and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
My favourite book is…The diary of Anne Frank.
My quirkiest habit is… eating chocolate as soon as I wake up every day.
In five years I hope to be… running my own business which I am working very hard to start.
In ten years I hope be… living in New York

Fur vest

I am loving faux-fur vests at the moment! I think they add a glamorous touch to any outfit. I found this vest and top both at CHIC-A-BOOTI at PACIFIC FAIR SHOPPING CENTRE. The jeans are DOTTI and the shoes last season LONDON REBEL.

Spotted Jacket

I am a huge fan of spots so I was very excited to find this jacket at BEST AND LESS for just $19.95! I’m wearing it with my new DOTTI jeans ($39.95), CITY BEACH boots ($69.95) and K-MART top ($15).

Of course, my favourite piece has to be this cute felt hat I found in MYER (Princess Highway for $39.95)!

Navy Stripes

I’m really into Navy Stripes at the moment! Navy can be a difficult colour to match with so I’ve kept it simple, wearing it with tan accessories.

Sharona Harris

Head down to CANTEEN COFFEE in Burleigh on any given morning and you’ll more than likely spot SHARONA HARRIS. Not only is this stylish brunette a head-turner, but  her walking companion is also a show stopper, a gorgeous French Bulldog named YOPLAIT.

The busy local and OSCAR OSCAR SALONS Brand Manager, holds the prestigious title of GOLD COAST BULLETIN’S BEST DRESSED.  So we thought we’d have a chat to this fashionista get a few insights on how she always manages to look so good!

Sharona, tell me a bit about yourself.

I am a born & bred Gold Coaster! I lived in Sydney briefly (Bondi, of course) but I love living on the Gold Coast, I have been living Burleigh Heads for approximately 7 years and I absolutely love it.

I noticed you have an exceptionally cute member of your family.

Yes, I own the most photogenic French Bulldog in the world, Yoplait.  She is adorable and my best little buddy. I think half of Burleigh knows her, I can’t walk five minutes without someone stopping to pat her. She loves the attention, such a show-off!

Describe an average day in your life?

I wake up at 5:30am and have a coffee with Yoplait at CANTEEN in Burleigh (best coffee on the Gold Coast) and then go for a walk on the beach for an hour, it’s like meditation for me!

At work by 8:30am and it’s just non-stop from the moment I walk in the door. My phone doesn’t stop ringing and so by the time I finish work at about 5:30pm I am mentally exhausted. We have just opened a new salon in Highpoint in Melbourne so that has kept my busy, as well as daily requests for sponsorships, advertising, PR and organizing all of our on-line media!

At 6pm I go to Essence of Living for a yoga or pilates class to de-stress, then home to cook dinner and watch a bit of TV (I love Modern Family) and in bed around 9:30pm.

Oscar Oscar seem to have exciting things happening at the moment.

Oscar Oscar Salons are taking over the world! We just opened our 13th salon in Highpoint, Melbourne plus we have another salon planned to open in Westfield Garden City in Brisbane in the next four weeks. Oscar Cullinan also has plans for more salons in QLD, VIC and NSW this year so watch this space!

How would you describe your style?

I really like clean cut, well-tailored pieces. I wear lots of black and neutral tones, plus I like to mix textures instead of wearing much colour.  I also don’t buy into many trends, I have a very particular style so If I buy something I know I will be able to wear it 5 years from now because my taste doesn’t change.

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

I think it would be the new All That Remains leather pinafore that I just brought, designed by a friend of mine Leaha Lockley. It has a laser-cut pattern on the hem and is so beautiful.

You travel quite a bit for work, how do you plan your wardrobe for your trips?

I do travel a bit for work so I always make sure I only pack items that won’t need ironing and can use the same jacket with several outfits, also because my wadrobe is very black with minimal colours its really easy for me to mix & match pieces!

Taking your best jacket and at least one pair of incredible heels can also transform a simple jeans and t-shirt look into an outfit suitable for meetings and events!

What is your biggest fashion faux-pas?

Ha ha I think I have had too many to name! Definitely the boho-cowboy boot thing was something I would rather forget.

What is the best style advice you have ever been given?

My old boss Jackie Cross, who has impeccable style, taught me to buy investment pieces. It is so much better to buy one amazing piece for your wardrobe then ten cheap and nasty ones!

What would I find in your handbag?

A ghd brush (my hair tangles easy), Bleu de Chanel (I prefer to wear men’s aftershave), MAC lipstick & Shu Uemura eye lash curler.

What is your beauty and hair regime?

I am pretty low-maintenance, I use Shu Uemura oil cleanser plus a Vitamin A cream and a Vitamin E cream plus I always wear a little bit of fake tan and plenty of sun screen!

For my hair I have been using the new Kerastase Cristalliste range for fine hair, it’s so great! Plus I use my ghd air hairdryer and ghd eclipse styler which are such amazing products!

Do you have a style icon?

That’s a tough one! Not really but at the moment I am keeping an eye on Christine Centenera and I love looking at old photos of Marianne Faithful and Jane Birkin.

Where is your favourite place on the Gold Coast?

That’s easy…Burleigh! It’s all happening in Burleigh, the food, coffee and shopping has really exploded here in the past 12 months and I am loving it. JUSTIN LANE is the best place for pizzas and a drink on a Friday night, if you can get a booking!

What are you wearing in the photos at the top?

The first photo is me at the HERMES event in Sydney. OSCAR OSCAR SALONS directed the hair so it was an incredible experience to be backstage and being invited to the party! The budget must have been enormous, they flew out one of my favourite rockabilly bands from Japan, the 5,6,7,8s and used Coney Island at Luna Park as the venue! The rockabilly theme was really fun. I wore an Ellery dress, Zimmermann denim bomber jacket and Vivien Westwood scarf to suit the 1950s vibe.

The second is a photo of my husband and I at one of my best friend’s weddings. I am wearing a Shakuhachi silk dress, which I absolutely love.

Mollie Miles

It wasn’t until model MOLLIE MILES decided to chop off her long, blonde locks that the jobs started rolling in. Since then, her career has taken flight. With her unique look, it’s no surprise she has been in demand from both designers and photographers, and you may have spotted her around town – she’s a favourite face for local brands CUPCAKE FASHION, PRINCESS POLLY and ANNA & RUTH.

We caught up with MOLLIE before she makes a move to the big smoke – she’s re-locating to Sydney next month to add to her already blossoming portfolio.

Mollie Miles

Mollie, tell me a bit about yourself.

I grew up on the Gold Coast, partly near the beach but also in the mountains. I also got to live on and off in the UK as my dad is English. I’m an only child but mum and dad regularly took in international students so there were always lots of people in the house. I’ve always had pets and been surrounded by animals and I remember counting 24 pets at one stage when I was living in the mountains.

How did you get into modelling?
Well I’ve always wanted to model, but last year I was lucky enough to be apart of Tyler Johnston’s runway show in Sydney at Hair Expo, and they asked me to cut all my hair off and dye it dark brown (at the time my hair was long and blonde). From there on in, the modelling took off.

Who have you modelled for?
I have worked with a range of designers, photographers and boutiques but one of my favourite jobs was last year when I modelled for the designer Gabriel Lee, at the “Wear your Heart” Charity Runway Show at Darling Harbour in Sydney . This was an opportunity to work with an amazing designer in an beautiful location and more importantly raised funds for charity.

What is the best part of modelling?
The best part would have to be meeting/working with all the inspiring, quirky and innovative individuals in the industry and working in a range of different locations. Also, being able to wear amazing and unique items of clothing that you dont get to wear every day (even though I would like to, hehe).

Are there any downsides?
If I’m going to be completely honest the downside would be the negative comments models get on their appearance eg. body shape and forgetting they are actually humans with a heart and feelings.

Mollie Miles
Where would you like your career to go?
I would one day love to be a recognised national and international model. Also I would like to develop into an successful business woman who can inspire other young models to achieve their goals with hard work and determination. Although you have to be a blank canvas for each client you work for, it is still most important to retain your individuality.

How would you describe a typical day in your life?
Managing my modelling, promoting myself, having a coffee, walking up Burleigh Hill with my dog, Princess Pookie.

How would you describe your style?
I have a colourful, quirky, unique style and like mismatching patterns, textures and accessories to make a comfy everyday outfit.

What should every woman have in their wardrobe?
Coat hangers

What would I find in your handbag?
Well I would always have strawberry field pink tic tacs, my phone, water and red lipstick.

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?
Wearing ugg boots in summer because my feet are always cold!

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
My red bowler hat, rainbow beanie and my vintage boots

Mollie Miles
What is the best style advice you have been given?
I seem to be given a lot of style advice, but to be honest, I find what works best is always dressing to your body shape and most of all being confident and comfortable

Finish these sentences:
I’m listening to…my cat meow

I’ve been told I look like…no one else.

In ten years I hope to be… an established successful model enjoying my life and career.

Gabrielle Epstein

You don’t usually associate Biomedical Science with modelling, yet these were the two career options GABRIELLE EPSTEIN had to choose between. With the glamorous lifestyle of LA beckoning, the talented local has made the tough decision. She’s decided to defer her studies (despite winning a Dean’s scholarship to Bond University) to pursue her catwalk dreams Stateside.

We chatted to GABBY about the exciting time that lies ahead, and got some style advice from this self-proclamed fashion addict.

Tell me a bit about yourself, Gabby.

I was born in 1994 as the oldest of three girls and was lucky enough to have been raised on the beautiful Gold Coast! I attended All Saints Anglican School until Year 10, and was then awarded an Academic and Sports scholarship to Clayfield College in Brisbane. Growing up I was heavily involved in sports and competed at both national and State Championships as well as the International Pacific School Games.

How long have you been modelling for?

I began modeling full-time in 2012 once I had completed my QCE.

Tell me a bit about the exciting things happening in your career.

I have recently signed with Vision Models Los Angeles on a two year contract which becomes effective once I move to Los Angeles in mid April.

Are you nervous about moving?

I am more excited about moving at the moment than nervous, I’m sure the nerves will kick in soon enough though! Vision Models have a model house in Beverly Hills in which I will be staying.

Where do you hope your career will go?

I would love to walk New York Fashion Week one day, and also experience both commercial and high fashion modelling.

What is the best part about modelling?

The best part of modeling is the clothes and shoes I get to wear! I love fashion and having a career in which I’m involved in the fashion industry everyday couldn’t get any better. I also have the opportunity to travel, attend fantastic shows and functions and meet new people.

Are there any downsides?

It is a very tough industry, even more overseas and you learn to develop thick skin in regards to criticism and rejection. The other downsides is that I will miss my family and friends terribly when I move to LA.

Gabrielle Epstein

How would you describe your style?

I don’t think I have a signature style, I like to mix it up and clash styles. I usually like more modern pieces with touch of rock chick, vintage, sometimes classic, a preppy touch and Boho. I choose items that I feel comfortable wearing.

What should every woman have in their wardrobe?

A hot LRD (little red dress), comfortable pair of boots and a pair of oversized sunglasses.

What would I find in your handbag?

Phone, wallet, keys, paw paw ointment and sunglasses.

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

My favourite item in my wardrobe is a pair of kangaroo leather cowboy boots with roses stitched in the side. I bought them in LA and I wear them everywhere.

What is the best style advice you have been given?

The most attractive thing a lady can wear is confidence!

MOLLY & POLLY SWIMWEAR may be relatively new on the scene, yet this homegrown brand is already making a splash in the industry. Within a few months of launching, it’s trademark bright prints were seen on the runways at both the GOLD COAST FASHION FESTIVAL and  MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION FESTIVAL in Brisbane, taking place aside some of the biggest names in the industry.

We caught up with KIRSTEN BECK, the creator of this hot up-and-coming label.

Hi Kirsten. How did Molly & Polly come about?

I have wanted to design swimwear from a very young age. The label was launched in February at the Gold Coast Fashion Week. The name comes from my two pet Indian ring neck parrots that I hand raised.

How would you describe the label?

Some of the full pieces and bikinis are vintage-inspired with high waistlines and plunging leotards.

How have you found being a designer on the Gold Coast?

It is great, the Business Gold Coast has been a great support through both the Business GC Swim program and now the new ‘Business GC Emerging Designer’ Store at Pacific Fair which I am very lucky to be a part of.

You use a lot of prints. How do you come up with ideas for new fabric designs?

Designing my prints is my favourite part of the design process. I like designing prints that are unique & colourful.

Where do you hope to go with your label in the future?

I would love to go international. I have had heaps of International stockists enquiries lately – I am now focussing on getting Molly & Polly into stores overseas.

How did you find the Gold Coast Fashion Week compared to the Brisbane Fashion Festival?

The Gold Coast Fashion Week & MBFF are two completely different events. Both have been an excellent stepping stone for Molly & Polly to be recognized as a growing Australian swimwear label.

Are you from the Gold Coast?

I grew up in Townsville and I moved to the Gold Coast in 2009 to study Fashion Design.

How would you describe your style?

Feminine yet boho at the same time.

KRISTY RIGBY may still be a school, but this young designer is determined to make it big in the competitive world of fashion. She recently launched her own label LEHANE – a 50’s inspired, handmade line aimed at young adults. “I definitely think the category of teenagers to young adults is forgotten about because there are girls and womens clothes, but there is nothing in-between,” says the teen “I have created garments which are sweet and innocent which isn’t often seen these days”.

While she hopes to grab this niche market, the Gold Coast born and bred entrepreneur says she does try to cater for all sizes and hopes her designs flatter every figure. “I want all women to feel and look beautiful in my garments. Each item is individually handcrafted and this makes every garment unique, just as unique as the customer”.

LEHANE is available at local markets like The Village Market in Burleigh as well as on FACEBOOK at

Kristy Rigby

What style advise would you give someone?

Style is not fashion. You should not feel you have to keep up with the trends because that is not what style is about. Style is about expressing who you are and being true to yourself. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing and confident that you look good.

What was your best fashion buy?

My best fashion buy would have to be my Sass and Bide jeans. I got them at a warehouse sale a couple of years ago for $30 and have been wearing them ever since.

What do you do in your spare time?

When I’m not at school, I’m doing homework, at the beach or with friends.

If you could be anywhere in the world where would you go?

I would be in Paris or New York. These cities are beautiful I have yet to visit them and can only dream until the day. I have seen enough pictures and movies to know that these places are amazing and a definite must-visit on any traveller’s list. Their fashion industries are huge and something I hope to be involved in later in life.

What is your beauty regime?

My beauty regime is I cleanse my face then moisturise. I hardly ever where makeup which keeps my skin clear and natural.

In five years I hope to be …completing university and studying fashion. I am yet to decide which university this will be at.

In ten years I hope to… have travelled around the world. Before I settle into working I think I want to travel and maybe intern around the world. This will give me some inspiration and ideas of goals I want to accomplish.

When it comes to natural beauty, you don’t get much better than TESS CAESAR. The New Zealand born, Gold Coast raised model was discovered when she won a model search contest at a local shopping centre.  Since then, she’s been a regular on the circuit, including being the face of UNDRESS BRISBANE, a huge fashion event held earlier this year.

We caught up with this stunning brunette in the hope she’d reveal some of her beauty secrets.

Tess, tell me a bit about yourself.
I was born in Christchurch and I moved to the Coast in 1998. I have five members in my family, Mum, Dad and 2 sisters (I am the middle child!)

How long have you been modelling for?
Two years!

Is there anyone in the industry you would you love to work with?
Miranda Kerr, because I think she is such an amazing Australian fashion ambassador, but also models like, Jess Hart, Megan Gale and Jennifer Hawkins are great Australian icons as well.

You recently were the face of UNDRESS Brisbane. That’s really exciting! Can you tell me a bit about it.
It was such a fun year. I loved being involved in such a huge and wonderful event. Castings were involved in the process of choosing the face of Undress Brisbane and I was lucky enough to receive the honour. Throughout the year we had photo shoots and filming to do for the big day in October. The show itself was incredible. I had an amazing time!

How would you describe your style?
Very eclectic because I change it up all the time from my boy shirts and converse/vans to my favourite floral dresses with sandals or heels. I sometimes even bring out my Creepers and band shirts. It really just depends on my mood.

What would I find in your handbag?
Paw Paw, lipgloss, gum, moisturizer, perfume, earphones (Just to name a few).

What was your best and worst fashion buys?
Best – I love my Mink Pink sunglasses and my Jeffery Campbell heels.
Worst – When I look back on childhood photos, I cringe and think “what were my parents dressing me in?”!

What is the best fashion advice you could give someone?
Don’t dress for other people, dress for yourself.

What is your greatest indulgence?
Anything from food to shopping instantly makes me happy!

What is your favourite fashion shop on the Gold Coast?
Any purchase from James Street. There are always so many cute items there.

I am a huge exfoliate and moisturizer fan!

How do you maintain your figure?

I listen to… a variety of everything
My favourite TV show is… Modern Family & Gossip girl
My favourite book is… the Twilight Saga
My quirkiest habit is… being an excessive giggler

The Design Institute of Australia’s 7×7 GALA EVENT was a gathering of the Gold Coast’s top creatives, so it’s no surprise it was also a meeting place for our city’s most stylish.

The successful evening was a collaboration of all things innovative, including fashion and architecture. Seven experts each addressed the crowd on their speciality topic for seven minutes a piece.

Here is our pick of the evening’s most stylish. We thought DASOMM CHOI‘s flamingo dress was a stand-out – and can you believe she made it herself, finishing it on the day of the event! Great work DASOMM.

SUMMAFIELDAYZE is only two months away so we thought we’d get into the vibe to bring you some of our top festival looks.

We took models EKALA HUNTER and TESS CAESAR to the MUDGEERABA SHOWGROUNDS to showcase some of the trends we’re seeing on celebs at festivals around the globe.

You can get a chance to wear your fav fashions at the next SUMMAFIELDAYZE. We are giving away a DOUBLE PASS to the January 5 bumper event featuring a line-up of top artists, including the CHEMICAL BROTHERS and M.I.A.

Go to our FACEBOOK and either share this album or like our PAGE to win two tickets worth over $250.

Get in touch with your hippy side by choosing funky prints and loose, flowing fabrics.

We love these jumpsuits by fabulous local designer LOVE ST. Complete the look with these KIVARI bags.

Just because festivals are usually held during the day, doesn’t mean you can’t go glam. Opt for metallics or give your outfit an edge with some big, bold statement jewellery.

Don’t expect to stay clean and tidy when you’re spending a day on a field. No matter what the weather, you’ll stay dry in these funky ROSIE ROO wellies (and look great too!).

Nothing says festival more than loose fitted tees with great prints. Funk it up with hats or a waistcoat and you’ll nail the festival vibe.

This is a great make-up tutorial sent to us by KYLIE’S PROFESSIONAL. It’s so easy to get stuck in a make-up rut, yet doing your make-up well can make such a difference to your whole look.

I definitely got some great pointers from this!

If you haven’t heard of REBECCA DICKSON, chances are you will soon. The Gold Coast born designer was so determined to make her mark on the industry, she started planning her business while completing her degree. It wasn’t long after she finished that HAUS OF REBECCA DICKSON was launched, a glamorous, but wearable line catering for the sexy, confident woman.

Her SPRING/SUMMER ’12 COLLECTION doesn’t follow trends, rather it reflects her love of travel with a European flare (think elegant Parisian). The look is bright, with simple lines and classic cuts. “I focused on easy, clean, well-cut pieces that travel well. They are classic pieces that will always be in fashion and women love to wear”, says REBECCA.

This forward thinking entrepreneur has now opened a pop up shop at the ORACLE in BROADBEACH showcasing her designs.

You can also find HAUS OF REBECCA DICKSON at

What do you like to do on the weekends?

At the moment I’m really enjoying the amazing Gold Coast weather! I work from home so I love getting out in the sunshine and going on long walks to clear my head before I start a day of work. I also love cooking for friends and family- at the moment I’m obsessed with making homemade pastas and breads!

How would you describe your style?

I love to get dressed up for a night on the town – glamourous and sexy dresses and the higher the heel the better! Day to day I’m the jeans and t-shirt kind, with a great heel of course!

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

My Chanel 2.55 bag I bought in Paris a few years ago. It’s classic, chic and will always remind me of the amazing trip I had.

What is the best style advice you could give someone?

Invest in shoes and bags. There’s nothing like a red-sole shoe to make an outfit pop! Go big and bold with one thing and keep the rest simple. Classic cuts and well-made garments are always best, sometimes it’s good to stay away from big trends and go with your own individual look.

How important is it for people to follow fashion trends?

Not very! I think classic is best. There’s ways to keep up with fashion and trends without losing your own sense of style. Try new colours for spring or update with a new cool accessory.

Rebecca, finish these sentences:

I’ve been told I look like…Tara Reid

My favourite restaurant on the Gold Coast is…Can I choose three?! Moo Moo, Mecca Bah and Latin Quarter. Oh and Boon Chu Thai for the best takeout!

When EKALA HUNTER spotted the WORLD SUPERMODEL AUSTRALIA competition on her friend’s Instagram, the novice model thought she’d give it a go. Little did she know, just a few months later she’d be jetting to SYDNEY for the finals with a chance of representing Australia in FIJI. It was the Byron Bay-born beauty’s first foray onto the catwalk so it’s no wonder she had a few butterflies to start with. “I was really nervous in the lead up to the competition” says the 23 year old, “but as soon as I got on the catwalk it was pure excitement”.

We caught up with this statuesque blonde for some style tips and get the inside scoop about her close encounter with a famous singer.

Tell me a bit about yourself.
I’m a bit of a gypsy. I’ve been floating between Byron, the Gold Coast and Melbourne my whole life. I’m currently living on the Gold Coast.

How long have you been modelling for?
I’ve only recently started modelling, my first public appearance was round one of WORLD SUPERMODEL AUSTRALIA.
What is your dream modelling job?
It’s always been a dream of mine to work for Victoria Secret. I admire every single one of the “Angels” and think it would be a lot of fun!

Who is your style icon?
Lara Bingle, Kate Moss and Erin Wasson.
What would I find in your handbag?
Phone, Purse, Makeup, Perfume, iPod and way too many receipts!
What was your best fashion buy?
My best would have to be a few rare vintage Op Shop finds.
What was your worst fashion buy?
My worst would definitely be a pair of extreme flared jeans I’m seen wearing in nearly every single photo of me as a teenager.
What is the best fashion advice you could give someone?
Know what suits your body shape and whatever you decide to wear, always wear it with confidence!!
What is your greatest indulgence?
Cheese and chocolate.
What is your favourite fashion shop on the Gold Coast?
I love op shopping and am a big fan of some of the local boutiques such as, “Dont Tell Fannie” and “About a Girl” in Nobby Beach.

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I once had dinner with Usher.
How do you maintain your figure?
I love walking along the beach and have recently become addicted to the Victoria Secret 10 minute workout!! (OMG AMAZING)!!

This season is about old-Hollywood glamour. From Marilyn Monroe’s playful style to Katharine Hepburn’s sophisticated lines – retro chic encompasses it all. Think sexy jumpsuits, flirty florals and tailoring and you’ll have this look down pat.

We found some vintage photos of our favourite 1950’s movie stars and thought we’d have a go at re-creating their looks – with a modern twist, of course! Our gorgeous (and we think rather “Marilyn Monroe” looking) model, SARAH GODFREY, underwent a transformation at the hands of talented make-up artist, Kylie Eustace from KYLIE’S PROFESSIONAL.

Clothes from local label, COAST by KATE CAMPBELL and as well as Australia Fair based boutique ADRENALIN finished off the look as photographer, ANDREW PLACE, worked his magic.

Here are the results.
